Fracture & Trauma

Fractures, or broken bones, are common injuries that require prompt medical attention. Dr. Manish is an experienced orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of fractures.

A fracture occurs when an external force is applied to a bone that is greater than the bone can withstand. There are different types of fractures, including displaced and non-displaced fractures. In a displaced fracture, the bone cracks into pieces and moves, while in a non-displaced fracture, the bone cracks but remains in the same position. Open fractures occur when the bone breaks through the skin, while closed fractures happen when the bone snaps but does not break the skin.

Polytrauma fractures are a type of fracture that occurs when a patient has multiple bone fractures, along with internal organ injuries that require a multi-system approach, ICU care, and multiple surgeries. These types of fractures usually result from high-velocity accidents.

Pelvis fractures occur when the waist bone is fractured. The pelvis is a joint for the muscles that reaches down to the legs and travels to the trunk of the body. Several vital structures run through the pelvis, making a fracture in this area potentially dangerous. Elderly people with osteoporosis are more prone to pelvic fractures.

Wrist fractures are another common type of fracture. The wrist is made up of eight bones, along with tendons, ligaments, and other forearm bones. These bones form small and large joints, and when external forces exert high pressure on them, fractures can occur. Falls, car accidents, and sudden jerks are some common causes of wrist fractures. Treatment can range from closed reduction and plaster application to open reduction and internal fixation, depending on the location and type of fracture.

Foot and ankle fractures are also common. The ankle joint consists of the tibia, fibula, and talus bones. The subtalar joint connects the ankle bone to the heel bones. Ankle fractures can result from falls, accidents, sudden jerks, and other injuries. Symptoms of a fractured ankle include swelling, severe pain, and bruising. There may also be a high risk of ligament tears. An X-ray can help diagnose the location and severity of the injury.

If you have a fracture or suspect you may have one, seek medical attention immediately. Dr. Manish can provide the proper diagnosis and treatment to help you recover and regain your mobility.
